Avery W. Katz is the Milton Handler Professor of Law at Columbia Law School. Prior to joining the Law School, Katz held professorships at the University of Michigan, including as an assistant professor of economics from 1986 to 1993; assistant professor of law from 1987 to 1993; and professor of law from 1993 to 1994.
Katz went on to hold positions at Georgetown University Law Center as professor of law and director of the John M. Olin Program in Law and Economics.
He was an Olin Faculty Research fellow at Yale University; a visiting professor of law at Georgetown in 1992 and 1994; and visiting professor of law at the Law School in 1998, prior to joining the full-time faculty in 2000.
Katz was also Scholar in Residence at the New York University School of Law in 2004. Katz was editor of the International Review of Law and Economics, 2003 to 2013; member of the board of directors of the American Law and Economics Association from 2003 to 2006; and chair of the section on law and economics at the American Association of Law Schools in 2001.
Katz serves as editorial referee for various legal and economic journals and scholarly presses, and is member of the advisory board for Contracts and Commercial Law Abstracts.
