James R. Hines’ research focuses on various aspects of taxation.
Hines is currently the L. Hart Wright Collegiate Professor of Law, the Richard A. Musgrave Collegiate Professor of Economics, the research director of the Office of Tax Policy Research in the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, and the codirector of the Law and Economics Program, all at the University of Michigan. He is also a research associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research, the research director of the International Tax Policy Forum, and the coeditor of the Journal of Public Economics. Prior to joining the Michigan faculty in 1997, he taught at Princeton University and Harvard University.
He earned both a BA and MA in economics from Yale University and a PhD from Harvard University.
