Ralph S. J. Koijen conducts research on asset pricing, decentralized and delegated investment management, real estate finance, household finance, and financial econometrics. His most recent research focuses on insurance and health markets.

Prior to his current position on the faculty of New York University's Stern School of Business, he taught at London Business School and was an assistant professor and Neubauer family faculty fellow at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Hehas taught undergraduate, graduate and MBA-level courses at NYU and at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

Koijen’s professional activities include a CEPR research fellowship in financial economics and positions as associate editor at the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, and Review of Finance.

Koijen earned a master's degree in financial econometrics and a PhD in finance from Tilburg University. He also spent time as a visiting graduate student at Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He was the 2016-17 Shui-Chen Lee Visiting Fellow.
