Tom Lemieux's research focuses primarily on labor economics and applied econometrics.

He is currently a professor of economics at The University of British Columbia, a fellow of The Royal Society of Canada, and a founding coeditor of the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics.

He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and has held positions at Stanford University, Princeton University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He received his bachelor's in economics from the Université Laval in 1984, his master's in economics from Queen's University in 1985, and his PhD in Economics from Princeton University in 1989.
