Vilsa Curto is a Postdoctoral Associate in Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Starting in July 2017, she will be an Assistant Professor of Health Economics and Policy at Harvard University. Her research focuses on the regulation of private health care markets. In her most recent work, a study of the market for Medicare supplemental insurance, she examines pricing regulations intended to ensure that those with chronic health conditions are able to obtain health insurance. In other work, she has studied private Medicare plans and quantified the extent to which these plans achieve cost savings, engage in health care utilization management, and respond to competition. This work has implications for regulatory interventions aimed at reducing costs in the Medicare program.
Curto received a BA in mathematics from Harvard University and a PhD in economics from Stanford University.
