John List Appointed Director of Becker Friedman Institute for Economics

Professor John A. List has been appointed director of the University of Chicago’s Becker Friedman Institute for Economics, effective July 1, Provost Katherine Baicker announced.

The Kenneth C. Griffin Distinguished Service Professor in Economics, List is a leading expert in microeconomics, field experiments, and the science of scaling. His research spans market dynamics, incentive structures, behavioral economics, charitable giving and generosity, early childhood education, and the gig economy.

Chad Syverson Named New BFI Deputy Director

Chad Syverson, the George C. Tiao Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at Chicago Booth, has been appointed Deputy Director of BFI. He will serve in this role alongside John List, who was recently announced as BFI’s incoming Director.

A leading scholar in industrial organization, Chad brings a wealth of insight and institutional knowledge to this role. His research has shaped how we understand the interactions of firm structure, market structure, and productivity.
