About the Program
The Expanding Diversity in Economics Summer Institute (EDE) is a University of Chicago program hosted by the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics (BFI) designed to identify and support talented undergraduate students from a broad range of backgrounds interested in the study of economics. Our goal is to diversify the pool of students majoring in economics, who may go on to a graduate program of study, or a career drawing on this important skill set.

Information Sessions
Virtual information sessions allow anyone interested in EDE to learn more about the program and the application process, with opportunities to engage with EDE staff and program alumni. There are no more scheduled sessions for the Summer 2023 application season.

2022 EDE Cohort
Through a holistic review process, 43 participants were selected for the 2022 cohort, coming from 30 US-based institutions in 17 states. For three weeks in the summer of 2022, the group received instruction, guest visits, and exposure to research from over 20 UChicago scholars and special guests.
