On October 10, 2023 Evan Rose (University of Chicago) will discuss his research “The Impact of Incarceration on Employment, Earnings, and Tax Filing”.

Incarceration generates short-term drops in economic activity, but has limited long-run impacts. Why? Join Evan Rose, Neubauer Family Assistant Professor, Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics, as he describes the challenges facing workers with a history of incarceration, including less formal education, the burden of potential racial discrimination, and the mark of a criminal conviction itself. Understanding the economic effects of incarceration is critical to assessing the impact of the massive rise in US incarceration rates over the last 50 years, especially on men and Black Americans.
