As president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minnesota from 2009 through 2015, Narayana Kocherlakota was active in setting monetary policy during the financial crisis, recession, and recovery. Evidence from the sluggish recovery led him to substantially revise his views on the most prudent course of action. At this event, Kocherlakota, PhD’87 (Economics), the Lionel W. McKenzie Professor of Economics at Rochester University, discussed the impact of monetary policy. In conversation with Becker Friedman Institute director Lars Peter Hansen, he explored the Fed’s evolving role in an uncertain globalized economy.
