One of the five key missions which the UK Government set itself when it came to power in 2024 was to create Safer Streets by increasing confidence in the police, alongside halving knife violence and violence against women and girls over the next 10 years. This BFI conference, co-sponsored by Griffin Catalyst and curated by the Chicago Crime Lab and the UK’s Ending Youth Violence Lab, seeks to inform these efforts with the best available data and evidence, drawing on lessons from the US, UK and other countries, from economics and adjacent social science disciplines, and leading practitioners alongside leading academics.
