The first warm and sunny day in Chicago calls for a celebratory cookout, and fortunately, the Department of Economics and the Becker Friedman Institute had a great reason to celebrate on May 27. The institute and department teamed up for an annual ceremony honoring undergraduate achievement over the past year. Four students received awards from the institute for their outstanding contributions to the University of Chicago’s tradition of academic rigor and accomplishment.
- Matthew Tauzer received the Becker Friedman Institute Award for Academic Achievement in Microeconomics.
- Abhi Gupta and Daniel Roberts each received the Becker Friedman Institute Award for Academic Achievement in Macroeconomics.
- Nicole Gorton was honored with the Becker Friedman Institute Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Service, which recognizes undergraduate students who have worked hard to engage and sustain a community of students interested in economics. Gorton earned the award for her role in moderating a panel on behavioral economics in May.
“These students have proven their ability to apply themselves with the rigorous scholarship required to tackle the next generation of economic problems,” says Lars Peter Hansen, institute director and cochair. “They have taken full advantage of the opportunities afforded to them as University of Chicago students, excelling at every opportunity. We want to reward their effort, talent, and enthusiasm.”
Students received a cash prize to support their future academic endeavors. The awards are proudly supported by the institute.
