Saieh Hall’s historic meeting room 112 has been dedicated in honor of Milton and Rose Friedman and their longtime friend and colleague Jeremy Siegel.

At a ceremony May 25, it was named the Jeremy J. Siegel Faculty Seminar Room in Honor of Milton and Rose D. Friedman. Before the dedication Siegel, the Russell E. Palmer Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, gave a special lecture during the faculty luncheon. He was also honored at the evening naming reception hosted by University of Chicago Provost Eric D. Isaacs and Division of the Social Sciences Dean David Nirenberg.

Professor Siegel chose to fund the room because of the impact Milton Friedman’s research has had throughout his academic career. “I was honored and privileged to be his colleague when I taught at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago from 1972 to 1976,” Siegel says.”As Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke stated, the lessons learned from Friedman’s research guided central bankers through the recent financial crisis, greatly moderating what would have been an economic contraction far worse than what we experienced in the Great Depression on the 1930s.

“Since most of Friedman’s research emanated from Money and Banking workshops held at the university in the 1950s and 1960s, I was thrilled to dedicate the faculty seminar room in his honor.”
