Naiwen Pang is a fourth-year PhD student in Economics at Rice University, specializing in Industrial Organization and applied econometrics. Prior to joining Rice, he earned a Master’s degree in Economics from University of Wisconsin, Madison and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Nankai University. His research focuses on empirical auctions, bargaining, and matching. In particular, He studies how interactions between prime contractors and subcontractors shape bidding behavior, market outcomes, and efficiency in public procurement auctions. His current work uses data from California Department of Transportation projects to analyze the joint determination of entry, subcontracting relationships, and bid formation. He develops structural models that incorporate both matching and bargaining to account for how subcontracting arrangements influence equilibrium bids and allocation efficiency.
