Reem Shammoka is the Assistant Director of Human Resources at the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics at the University of Chicago. Reem previously served as a Senior Human Resources Business Partner with the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago. She completed her Bacherlor’s Degree in Management from DePaul University and later continued to get her Master’s Degree in Human Resources also from DePaul. Reem is passionate about shaping and executing HR initiatives that drive employee satisfaction, engagement, and organizational success.

Throughout her career, Reem has worked in various HR roles, gradually accumulating a wealth of knowledge and skills along the way. Her commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with industry trends has allowed her to adapt to evolving HR practices and regulations, ensuring the organization she serves maintains compliance and remains at the forefront of HR excellence.

As the Assistant Director of HR, Reem collaborates closely with the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, Operations Director and other key stakeholders to develop and implement HR strategies that align with the institute’s objectives. She excels at managing the entire employee life cycle, from talent acquisition and onboarding to performance management and career development. Reem possesses a keen eye for talent, employing innovative recruitment techniques to attract high-caliber candidates who are the right fit for the organization’s culture and values.
