Household and firms’ inflation expectations play a central role in macroeconomic models and policy discussions and shape observed economic choices in the data. We discuss how individual-level inflation expectations are measured, the patterns they display, their determinants, and how they impact household and firms’ decisions. We conclude by highlighting the relevant open questions and why tackling these questions is important for academic research and policy makers.
