Ellen Peterson joined the University of Chicago in 2022 as a Senior Human Resources Business Partner and works with several units at the university, from arts and culture to research, innovation, and professional education. With over fifteen years of experience, she is a dedicated Human Resources leader who has made significant impacts across a range of industries and organizational settings. Ellen is both a strong leadership partner and employee advocate, building effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Her proficiency with HR technologies and a commitment to empathy and cultural humility have enabled her to successfully lead workforce planning, engagement, and process improvement initiatives.

Throughout her career, Ellen has driven advancements at organizations such as the Chicago Architecture Center, Fiserv, and the National Association for Healthcare Quality, including employee engagement and recognition programs, team alignment with strategic goals, and inclusion and belonging initiatives. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in International Business and Human Resource Management from Illinois State University, and a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification from the Society for Human Resource Management. She is also an active volunteer leader with her local high school music program.
