Leon grew up in Munich and started studying computer science at TUM in middle school, but found himself far more excited by economics. He went on to study at the University of Mannheim and spent time doing research at the Kiel Institute with Christoph Trebesch, at the German Council of Economic Experts, and with Davide Cantoni at LMU in Munich. At BFI, he works with Leonardo Bursztyn. He’s drawn to applied microeconomics, with a particular soft spot for political economy and economic history, both of which he gets genuinely excited talking about. When he’s not working, Leon obsesses over movies and plays some impressively mediocre basketball.??
