Dirk Krueger’s research lies at the intersection of macroeconomics, public finance, and labor economics. He applies economic theory, empirical methods, and computational methods to understand questions of immediate policy relevance. He focuses on how unemployment, health, and mortality risks are shared across households or groups of households.
Krueger is a research associate at the University of Pennsylvania’s Population Studies Center and a research fellow at both the Center for Economic Policy Research and Netspar. He also is a research professor at Mannheim Research Institute for the Economics of Aging, and both an adjunct professor and a research fellow at Goethe University Frankfurt. He is also a coeditor of the Journal of the European Economic Association.
Krueger received his diplom economic from the University of Bielefeld and his PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota.
Krueger has been appointed the institute’s inaugural Sinquefield Visiting Researcher. This honor is made possible by the generosity of Rex A. and Dr. Jeanne C. Sinquefield, whose gift creates opportunities for top economic researchers at the University of Chicago.
