Patrick Bergemann studies the ways in which institutions interact with informal networks to influence behavior in unexpected ways. In particular, he is interested in the incidence of wrongdoing within organizations and polities, and what leads individuals to report such behavior to the authorities. His research is broadly relevant to the areas of social network analysis, economic sociology and political sociology, and has been published in the American Journal of Sociology and the American Sociological Review.
Prior to joining Booth, Bergemann was a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at Columbia Business School in New York City. He received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in Sociology from Stanford University. He was also formerly a research assistant at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC.
