Alejandro Ortiz is a Pre-doctoral Research Professional at the Development Innovation Lab (DIL) at the University of Chicago. His work focus centers on development economics, with a particular emphasis on sustainable finance, health, and education. Prior to joining DIL, Alejandro’s most recent role involved working with the Center for Sustainable Finance at Universidad de los Andes, where he contributed to projects transitioning mining-intensive municipalities toward sustainable agriculture through mechanisms like green bonds and blended finance.

His background also includes evaluating large-scale conditional cash transfer programs in multiple countries and public health trends, as well as researching teacher training and tertiary education outcomes with international organizations like the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. Alejandro holds a BA and MA in Economics from Universidad de los Andes. Beyond his professional and academic achievements, Alejandro is an active individual who enjoys scuba diving, water skiing, and trivia of all sorts.
