The Becker Friedman Institute for Economics at The University of Chicago (BFI) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new Saieh Family Fellows in Economics.

The Saieh Fellows Program provides funding and support for early-career scholars who have recently completed their PhDs in economics. Fellows spend one or two years on campus, during which they have the opportunity to conduct independent research and collaborate with faculty and other scholars at the university.

“We’re excited to welcome this year’s exceptional Saieh Fellows,” said John List, the Kenneth C. Griffin Distinguished Service Professor in Economics, College, Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics Director and Director of BFI. “They represent some of the brightest emerging scholars in economics, and we look forward to the energy and insight they’ll bring to campus.”

The 2025-26 cohort of Saieh Fellows includes:

  • Agostina Brinatti, who received her PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan and will join the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as an Assistant Professor.
  • Georgios Nikolakoudis, who received his PhD in Economics from Princeton University and will join Yale University as an Assistant Professor.
  • Ryungha Oh, who is a Post-Doctoral Scholar at Northwestern University and will join the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as an Assistant Professor.

Saieh Fellows receive a competitive salary, research support, and access to the university’s academic resources and facilities. The program also offers opportunities for professional development and networking through workshops, seminars, and conferences. The aim of the program is to support the development of the next generation of leading economists and social scientists.

In its short history, the Saieh Family Fellows in Economics has attracted and supported leading early-career scholars. Approximately half of the fellows have been selected to present at the annual Review of Economic Studies tour, which brings a small number of the world’s most promising graduating doctoral students in economics and finance to present their research to audiences in Europe. Past fellowship recipients now hold faculty positions at Chicago Booth and the University’s Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics, Brown University, Columbia University, Harvard University, MIT, Northwestern University, Princeton University, Stanford University, UCLA, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, and Yale.

The Saieh Family Fellows program is permanently endowed by a generous gift from University of Chicago trustee and alumnus Alvaro Saieh. For a list of all current and past Saieh Family Fellows, click here.
